Administrator Laeeq Ahmed visit Karachi Zoo
Karachi, April 29, 2016 (PPI-OT):KMC Administrator Laeeq Ahmed on Friday paid a detailed visit of Karachi Zoo to ascertain the reasons of Bengal Tigers’ expiry and to review the overall condition of zoo. He also inspected the post-mortem of expired tiger in the zoo medical center being carried out by the veterinary doctors. Senior Director Culture, Sports and Recreation Raza Abbas Rizvi along with Director Zoo Faheem Khan and other officers accompanied him on this occasion.
The Zoo administration informed Administrator Karachi that last week a team of experts comprising of consultant Dr. Asma, Dr. Khanzada and Dr. Kazim had performed complete medical checkup of Bengal Tiger and it was transpired after getting the blood test report that the tiger’s kidneys ceased working and he could not survived due to it. The tiger died in the Karachi Zoo was 16 years old whereas the maximum age of Bengal Tiger is 18 years.
Administrator Laeeq Ahmed directed zoo administration to provide natural environment to captives in zoo and take full care of their health and feed and ensure best medical treatment to these animals which provide great recreation to the people visiting this facility. About the death of deer in Karachi Zoo he said the deer were died due to a conflict among them and there was no any negligence in this connection.
He however said that the zoo staff has been instructed to take special care so that all animals and birds in zoo could be kept in healthy condition. Later Administrator Laeeq Ahmed went to the cages of various animals and inquired about their health and feeds. Director Zoo Faheem Khan informed that presently 117 cages were available in the zoo where more than 160 animals and over 400 birds have been kept.
He said the zoo facing shortage of staff especially the sanitary staff which he said should be provided. Administrator Karachi during the visit of zoo also directed the administration of zoo to ensure full care and protection of the old trees here which are 200 to 250 years old. He also instructed them to arrange for more greenery and plantation in the empty areas of zoo.
