4 students off to London for participation in London International Youth Science Forum
Islamabad, August 15, 2012 (PPI-OT): Four Pakistani students left for London on August 15, 2012 for participation in “London International Youth Science Forum (LIYSF)-2012” to be held at London Imperial College from August 16-30, 2012.
The visit is sponsored by Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF) under its Science Popularization Programme. Call for applications were announced through email/internet by PSF and National Academy of Young Scientists (NAYS) in February, 2012. More than 300 students applied for participation in LIYSF-2012. On the basis of their academic qualification, 20 students were short listed and called for interview on 17 March, 2012 at PSF and of them 14 appeared for the interview.
A panel of eminent scientists interviewed the students in details and recommended four students (two boys and two girls) for participation in the London International Youth Science Forum-2012 with two alternate candidates.
The students participating in the event include Ms. Fatima Sajid, Student of MBBS at Army Medical College, Rawalpindi, Mr. Omer Maqsood, Student of B.E (electronics) National University of Science and Technology, Islamabad, Ms. Zaineb Sohail, Student of BS at Atta-ur-Rahman School of Applied Biosciences, NUST, Islamabad and Mr. Fahad Sohrab, Student of BS (Telecommunication Engineering) at FAST NUCES, Peshawar.
PSF has taken up a good initiative for promotion and popularization of science across the country. This opportunity will help students in exchange of scientific knowledge and latest development in scientific fields.
London International Youth Science Forum (LIYSF) is an educational forum founded in 1959 by Educational Cultural Exchanges (International) Ltd. having its registered office at Royal Parade Mews, Kent, BR7 6TN. One of major objectives of LIYSF is to give a deeper insight into science and its applications for the benefit of all mankind and to develop a greater understanding between young people of all nations.
Each year hundreds of students from all over the world participate in LIYSF in which Lectures and demonstrations from leading scientists, visits to industrial sites, research centres, scientific institutions and organizations, including world class laboratories and universities are arranged.
This year LIYSF is going to be held on 16-30 August, 2012 at Imperial College, London for young students and researchers. The forum offers a unique opportunity to students to participate in an international event and interact with famous educationist and scientists.
A major objective of the LIYSF- 2012 is to provide a platform to the students from multi nationalities to live together as an international community and exchange their ideas and experiences for deeper understanding of S and T.
