Srinagar, March 07, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Indian authorities have imposed curfew and strict restrictions in Srinagar and other parts of the Kashmir Valley on second consecutive day, today, to prevent people from protesting against the killing of a student and stepped-up Indian state terrorism in the territory. Curfew was imposed in Srinagar, Baramulla, Sopore, Trehgam, Pulwama, Pampore and Shopian while strict restrictions were enforced in all other cities and towns.

The authorities have also blocked all roads across the Valley. Indian paramilitary forces and police personnel, deployed in strength, were patrolling the deserted streets in Srinagar and other towns.

An assessment meeting was held in Srinagar to discuss fallout of the killing. The meeting decided to keep curfew continue on Thursday, an official told media men.

Meanwhile, scores of youths have been arrested by the Indian police from the past few days from Srinagar, Baramulla, Islamabad, Shopian, Pulwama and other districts of the Valley. Police are also pressurizing the families to handover their relative youth who are on run to evade the arrest, the families said. The residents of downtown Srinagar said, police have arrested over 50-youth during nocturnal raids from the past few days.

“Over 60 youth have been arrested by the police from the past couple of days in Hawal, Nawakadal, Rajouri Kadal, Battamaloo and the adjacent areas of Srinagar. Police are also detaining those who had been part of protests in 2010 and 2011,” a police official said.

“We are being harassed without any crime. If any youth had been part of the 2010 agitation, police have launched manhunt to arrest those youth which is unnecessary. Even youth are also picked up for protesting peacefully, which doesn’t happen anywhere across the globe,” said Ali Mohammad, a resident Nawakadal, whose nephew was arrested by police on Tuesday.
