Kashmir valley under strict curfew
Srinagar, March 08, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the authorities imposed curfew in all parts of the Valley to thwart protests, today, against the killing of a Baramulla youth and demand of the return of the bodies of prominent Kashmiri liberation leaders, Mohammad Maqbool Butt and Mohammad Afzal Guru, from New Delhi’s infamous Tihar Jail.“The decision to impose curfew was taken after assessing the critical situation,’ a police official told media men.
Earlier, curfew was imposed in Srinagar, Baramulla, Sopore, Trehgam, Pulwama, Pampore, Kulgam and Shopian and strict restrictions were put in place in other parts of the territory on Wednesday. However, the authorities on Thursday evening decide to curb daily movement of the people and demonstrations imposing curfew in all cities and towns of the Valley. Announcements were made on loudspeakers that no one is allowed to come out from his house.
Indian paramilitary troops and police personnel have been deployed in strength on roads. Pertinently, at least 120 persons have been injured so far in the clashes at various places across the Valley since Tuesday.
