Use of force, curfew make Kashmiris’ lives miserable: Mirwaiz

Srinagar, March 09, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyet Conference Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, has said that the continued use of force and imposition of curfew have made lives of the Kashmiri people miserable. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who is under house arrest in Srinagar, in a media interview said that dozens of Hurriyet leaders had been arrested since February 9, the day when Muhammad Afzal Guru was executed in Delhi’s Tihar Jail, which was highly condemnable.

He said, Indian police and CRPF personnel barge into the houses and beat up people and broke windowpanes. “This is the worst form of state terrorism. People are being forced to remain silent. The forced silence won’t remain for long,” he added.

The APHC Chairman said that the elderly people had developed breathing problems and chest pain due to frequent use of pepper gas by the police and troops. These tactics won’t deter the Kashmiri from fighting for their rights, he maintained.

He said that Kashmir witnessed the direct fallout of the secret execution of Muhammad Afzal Guru. “There was already a simmering discontent and New Delhi hanged Guru without allowing him to meet his family, especially his wife and lone son. The anger spilled over and it was further fuelled by the mysterious death of Mudassir Malla of Pulwama in Hyderabad Deccan followed by brutal killing of Tahir Sofi by Indian troops in Baramulla,” he said.

The Mirwaiz expressed surprise over the recent statement of Indian Home Minister, Sushil Kumar Shinde, that the puppet administration of occupied Kashmir had made no formal request for the revocation of draconian Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA). He said that New Delhi was not bothered to address the Kashmir dispute as it was not even interested to repeal the black laws.

“I was surprised to see Shinde’s statement that there has been no formal request from JandK on revocation of AFSPA. What was puppet Chief Minister doing for past many years then?” he asked.

“The Government of India has taken the people of Kashmir for granted. It doesn’t bother about killings, arrests, let alone resolving Kashmir dispute. New Delhi’s approach is totally against resolving Kashmir issue,” he maintained.
