Supreme Court of Pakistan disposes of 683 cases in a week
Islamabad, March 08, 2013 (PPI-OT): The Supreme Court of Pakistan has disposed of 683 cases whereas 836 new cases have been instituted during the period from Saturday 02nd March 2013 to Friday 08th March 2013. The backlog remains 19102.
The backlog in the apex Court on 01st March 2013 was 18949 cases. As 836 new cases were instituted during the period from Saturday 02nd February 2013 to Friday 08th March 2013, the progressive total of pending cases on 08th March 2013 came to 19785 cases. Out of these, 683 cases were disposed of during the period from Monday 04th March 2013 to Friday 08th March 2013. The backlog on 08th March 2013 remains 19102 cases.
The Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan Mr. Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry constituted various Benches at the principal seat, Islamabad and Branch Registries to expedite the case hearings and clear the backlog.
The Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan and the Hon’ble Judges of Supreme Court remained committed to accelerate disposal of the cases and diminish the backlog. The Hon’ble Judges continued to hear the case in various benches with the aim to minimize the backlog and provide relief to the litigants.
