Country-wide blackout: Water and Power Development Authority Chairman has no role in Enquiry Committee
Lahore, March 10, 2013 (PPI-OT): The Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) has strongly invalidated a news item appeared in daily The News on March 9, 2013 wherein WAPDA Chairman has been alleged for “trying to sweep the fact under the carpet” regarding the country-wide blackout on February 24 this year.
It is emphatically clarified that the Enquiry Committee looking into the incident of total system collapse framed by the Ministry of Water and Power and convened by the Member (Power) has already submitted interim report directly to the Secretary Water and Power on March 8. Therefore, Chairman WAPDA has no involvement in this regard, thus influencing the enquiry proceedings is totally out of question and is categorically denied.
The Enquiry Committee which is in the process of investigating the causes of power breakdown event in their final report, would be in a better position to draw the final conclusion taking into the account of all the technical aspects of the power system, until then, outright conclusion portrayed by the newspaper is totally misleading.
