Police launches crackdown on Hurriyet leaders
Srinagar, March 10, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, Indian police have launched a massive crackdown on Hurriyet leaders to foil the programmes of Muttahida Majlis-e-Mashawarat (MMM).The Muttahida Majlise Mashawarat, a representative forum of pro-liberation organizations, is spearheading the campaign for the return of the mortal remains of Kashmiri leaders Muhammad Maqbool Butt and Muhammad Afzal Guru, from New Delhi’s Tihar Jail to Kashmir.
The All Parties Hurriyet Conference Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani and most of the Hurriyet leaders have already been placed under house arrest or behind the bars.
Police arrested many Hurriyet leaders after raiding their residences during the past few days. The arrested leaders include Muhammad Yousuf Naqash, Advocate Zahid Ali, Ghulam Nabi Zaki, Ghulam Muhammad Nagoo and Fehmeeda Sofi.
The police also raided residences of liberation leaders, Bashir Ahmad Butt and Abdul Ahad Parra.
Meanwhile, a senior police official in a media interview said that crackdown on Hurriyet leaders would continue in coming days.
