Pakistan Maritime Security Agency commemorate Pakistan Day celebrations at Bhit Island
Karachi, March 24, 2013 (PPI-OT): 1. Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) is the prime organization to protect the marine resources of Pakistan. It also safeguards the rights of local fishermen in our EEZ and furthermore, as part of its socio economic responsibility, looks after their interests and also focuses on humanitarian issues. A large number of people living along the coastline are dependent on marine resources and engaged in the fishing profession for their livelihood.
These communities are generally deprived of good education, basic health and medical facilities. In this context, PMSA has adopted the Government Boys Secondary School at Bhit Island, one of the two fishermen Islands situated in Karachi Harbour, near Manora. As part of Pakistan Day Celebrations, a colourful function was arranged at Govt Secondary School, Bhit Island, to commemorate the national day. Students from various schools, volunteers and concerned well wishers participated in the festivity.
The aim was also to involve the children of the affluent class, to bridge the gap between students of different backgrounds (the not so privileged). A number of activities highlighting the significance of Day were conducted/carried out. Over 400 Gift Boxes were distributed among the students and staff. The Pakistan Maritime Security Agency also provided cash awards for the teachers and school staff in recognition of their efforts to promote education.
PMSA remains committed to safeguard the interests of the fishermen and will continue its endeavours to establish better understanding and close liaison with the community and pursue the cause of education of their young generation.
