Prime Minister directs provinces to reserve seats in medical and engineering institutions for Federally Administered Tribal Areas students
Islamabad, August 01 2013 (PPI-OT): Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has directed all the Provinces to make arrangements to reserve at least 2% of total number of seats in Medical, Engineering and other Professional Institutions and Universities for students hailing from the FATA areas.
He further directed Cabinet Division, Education, Trainings and Standards in Higher Education and National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination Divisions to make similar arrangements for the institutions in the Federal Capital.
The Prime Minister issued these directions with the objective of enabling the mainstreaming of FATA students, who could return to serve in some of the most backward areas and also perform as agents of change and catalysts of modernization.
The Prime Minister observed that Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) are passing through extremely challenging circumstances and that there is a dearth of quality educational institutions in FATA for the youth. The situation warrants urgent action from all concerned, he affirmed. The Prime Minister further directed that these directions be implemented in letter and spirit.
