Gilani calls for complete shutdown in IOK on Saturday
Srinagar, August 15, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, has urged the people to observed complete shutdown on Saturday to press for dissolution of the so-called Village Defence Committees (VDCs).
Syed Ali Gilani in a statement in Srinagar declared that the shutdown would be observed on Saturday instead of Friday. He called upon the people organize peaceful demonstrations after Friday prayers and apprise people about the VDCs and the necessity for protesting against their highhandedness. “We will not call off our struggle and will continue our protest until the committees are dissolved,” he added.
Syed Ali Gilani pointed out that culprits and the persons behind the present disturbance in the Jammu region were being let free while as members of a particular community were being targeted and arrested at random. “The administration is scared of RSS and Sangh Parivar and Omar Abdullah for the sake of existence of his government is exhibiting reluctance and avoiding action against main culprits,” he said.
The veteran leader expressed deep concern over the statement of Principal Home Secretary of the territory, Suresh Kumar, wherein he had claimed that VDC members had misused their authority only in Padder area and that they had no plans to dissolve these Committees.
“VDC members are actually armed terrorist in civil dress and instead of obeying the authorities are directly under the influence of Jan Sangh. Right from their inception these Committees remained a continuous threat for local Muslim community,” he stated.
He said that Suresh Kumar had deliberately ignored the recent episodes in which a minor Muslim girl was sexually assaulted in Kishtwar and a 10th class student was brutally killed in Thatry by the VDC members.
“Suresh Kumar has not even mentioned the stone pelting incidents, the handiwork of those threatening the Muslim population during nights. It is highly shameful and deplorable,” he said and warned that until these Committees were dissolved, vested sections with their sinister designs, would continue their subversive activities. He also appealed to the people of Jammu region to maintain peace, mutual brotherhood and communal harmony and remain cautious against the sinister designs of BJP and Jan Sangh.
