Huge potential of bilateral trade between Pakistan and Indonesia exists: Shamim A. Firpo

Karachi, August 30, 2013 (PPI-OT): Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Acting President Shamim A. Firpo has stated that huge potential of bilateral trade between Pakistan and Indonesia do exist. Exploration of new business prospects and new trading avenues need attention of both Governments. Regular participation of Indonesia companies in KCCI’s Flagship My-Karachi, Oasis of Harmony since 2004 reflects exceptional bilateral trade and excellent diplomatic and political relations between Pakistan and Indonesia.

He urged the Founding President of Pakistan-Indonesia Business Forum (PIBF) Abdul Majid Haji Muhammad who is also the Ex-President of KCCI to use his good offices and influence both the Governments to expedite enforcement/ implementation of Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) between Pakistan and Indonesia.

A delegation of Pakistan-Indonesia Business Forum (PIBF) headed by its Founding President Abdul Majid Haji Muhammad visited KCCI to meet its Acting President Shamim A. Firpo. Exchanging views during with President PIBF Majid Haji Muhammad, the Acting President Shamim Firpo said that implementation of PTA will open new chapter of economic and commercial cooperation and will also bring closer the business communities of both countries to boost the bilateral trade ties.

He also asked Abdul Majid Haji Muhammad to jointly compose a delegation of KCCI and PIBF to visit Indonesia and meet the business counterparts to strengthen business ties. He appreciated and admired the services of Abdul Majid Haji Muhammad as the President KCCI in year 2009-10 and lauded his efforts to form the Pakistan-Indonesia Business Forum (PIBF) which is a vital initiative to bring close the business communities of two countries.

He also recognized his services as President KCCI for the rehabilitation of Bolton Market Fire Incidence as well as the victims of floods in 2010. He also conveyed his gratitude to President PIBF for supporting KCCI in organizing Indonesian Pavilion in the My-Karachi, Oasis of Harmony Exhibitions. Vice President KCCI Nasir Mehmood also shared his views on this occasion. Managing Committee Members of KCCI and members of PIBF also participated in the meeting.

Founding President of Pakistan-Indonesia Business Forum (PIBF) and Former President KCCI Abdul Majid Haji Muhammad congratulated Shamim A. Firpo on assuming the charge of Acting President and recognized his services to promote trade and industry.

He recognized that the President/ Office Bearers of KCCI elected through the platform of Businessmen Group headed by its Chairman Siraj Kassam Teli are committed to Public Service and promote commercial and industrial activities. He said that he himself as BMGIAN had the opportunity to serve the business community as the KCCI’s President.

He stated that Pakistan and Indonesia have excellent bilateral relations. Cooperation between both countries in the areas of economic, commercial and military/ defence was increasing with the passage of time. He highlighted that the Indonesia-Pakistan Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) was a landmark development in the bilateral history of two countries which will not only raise bilateral trade volume but also open doors for Pakistani businessmen to penetrate in the emerging ASEAN market. With enforcement of PTA the trade volume between two countries will touch the figure of two billion US dollars in one year.

He apprised that there was some delay in the enforcement and notification was not issued yet; in this connection he is in touch with the concerned quarters in both countries. He apprised that the Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) between two countries will be signed soon.

He said that Indonesia and Pakistan have had a remarkable history of fraternal relationship and two countries have enjoyed sound and steady commercial interaction since last several decades. He hoped that this amiable relationship will continue to grow with the implementation of the PTA.

He stated that both Pakistan and Indonesia are blessed with immense natural resource which are still need to be tapped. With effective utilization and exploring there resource both countries would emerge as the developed countries in the region.

He said that this year Indonesian Pavilion was organized in the 10th My-Karachi Exhibition of KCCI wherein 30 Indonesia companies participated. He assured that PIBF will keep close liaison with KCCI to promote bilateral trade and assured that a joint Business Delegation of KCCI and PIBF to Indonesia will be composed soon.
