Pakistan should raise the Kashmir Issue as well as the Human Rights Violations in the Occupied Kashmir at the United Nation General Assembly: Fazl-ur-Rahman

Be First!

Islamabad: Maulana Fazl-ur-Rahman, Chairman Parliamentary Kashmir Committee has observed that India had unleashed a reign of terror in the Occupied Kashmir. Kashmiris are being killed with impunity and rape is used as a weapon of war. Since Kashmir is a dispute, as accepted by the UN in its resolutions, the human rights violations perpetrated by the Indian soldiers in the disputed territory fall within the ambit of the international war crimes.

Therefore, the Indian soldiers should be tried by the International Crime Tribunal. The Chairman asserted that an international investigation should also be held into the matter of unnamed mass graves found in the Occupied Kashmir, because justice is not expected from the Indian courts. He said that the Jammu and Kashmir Human Rights Commission had also recommended investigations in the matter by a neutral organization. He said that it was not an ordinary matter.

The European Parliament passed a resolution in this regard in 2008. Many international human rights organizations, such as Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch and others had expressed concern in this regard. He said that more than 10,000 Kashmiris had disappeared and their nears and dears were searching for many years. Many of them might be buried in these graves.

Maulana Fazl-ur-Rahman emphasized that resolution of the Kashmir Dispute was a must for peace in the region. Therefore, the world community should take interest in the issue. He also appreciated the recent debate held in the British Parliament on the Kashmir issue.

He said that the issue was left unresolved by the Britain. It is, therefore, their responsibility to get it resolved. She should pressure India to resolve it, besides persuading other big powers of the world to be active in this issue. The Parliaments of the other countries should also discuss the issue, as was done by Norway in the recent past.

The Chairman Kashmir Committee said that Pakistan was a leader of the Kashmiri people. Therefore, we should highlight the Kashmir issue at all international fora. He also urged the Pakistan Government to highlight the Kashmir issue and the Indian state terrorism unleashed in the Occupied Kashmir at the current session of the UN General Assembly.
