Professor Tom Christenson delivers second lecture on Perspectives on Public Decision Making Process

Lahore: Prof Tom Christenson from University of Oslo, Norway, during his lecture series, delivered second lecture on ”Perspectives on Public Decision Making Process” here at the Punjab University Institute of Administrative Sciences here on Wednesday.

Former Chairman National Reconstruction Bureau Daniyal Aziz was the Chief Guest while IAS Director Prof Dr Nasira Jabeen, Prof Dr Zafar Iqbal Jadoon, faculty members and a large number of students attended the lecture.

Prof Tom Christensen, in his lecture, deliberated on competing perspectives on decision making in the public sector. He observed that decision making in public sector is not always on rational basis rather political, cultural, geographical and historical factors affect the public choices. He reiterated the need for creative adoption of foreign models and best practices instead of blindly importing them.

Daniyal Aziz, speaking on the occasion, gave a historical background to the role and dominance of bureaucracy in Pakistan’s administrative system. Relating Pakistan’s experience to the lecture presentation of Prof Tom, he observed that Pakistan bureaucratic elites particularly DMG has been path dependent in maintaining its dominance and privileged position in political and administrative system of Pakistan.

Prof Dr Nasira Jabeen and Prof Dr Zafar Iqbal Jadoon also spoke on the occasion.
