Disabled in general and blind in particular are suffering hard in Pakistan as compared to the developed country: Saeed Khan
Lahore, October 14, 2015 (PPI-OT): President of Lahore Businessmen Association for Rehabilitation of Disabled (LABARD) and General Secretary Saeed Khan have said that disabled in general and blind in particular are suffering hard in Pakistan as compared to the developed country. Therefore it is duty of every citizen to play his role for their betterment.
In a message on World Sight Day, LABARD Office-bearers said that there is a dire need for national coordination, legislation, information and public awareness for rehabilitation of disabled. They said that there is a dire need of more comprehensive demographic data of people with disabilities, which is really unclear at the moment.
LABARD President and MNA Muhammad Pervaiz Malik and Secretary General Saeed Khan said that we should remember our brothers and sisters who are suffering from disability. They said that more than 35 million Pakistani people are bearing any kind of disability and a number of disabled persons are compelled for begging due to lack of proper attention of concerned departments. He said that with a little attention these people could become an active part of the society.
The LABARD office-bearers said that developed countries are giving special attention to the disabled persons. Not only buildings have special ramps but also facilities are being provided at all public places. He said that disabled persons in Pakistan are facing many difficulties due to lack of proper attention. He said that government should divert his attention towards the issue and ensure proper facilities at all building and public places.
Pervaiz Malik said that disabled persons could play a special role for prosperity of the country as they have some special God gifted abilities. He said that there are many examples that disabled persons have done some excellent job so they should not leave the optimism and work with new zeal.
The LABARD has also arranged jobs for these disabled persons with an objective to give them courage to stare in the eyes of physical disability they have been suffering with. The Lahore Businessmen Association for Rehabilitation of Disabled (LABARD) has so far arranged jobs for hundreds of disabled persons.
They said that a number of services including medical assistance, counselling of mentally disabled persons, speech therapy, Qarz-e-Hasana and crutches, tricycles are being provided absolutely free of cost. The number of disabled persons who got themselves registered with the LABARD for availing these facilities is now in thousands.
