Prime Minister arrives in Tehran
Islamabad, January 19, 2016 (PPI-OT): Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif arrived in Tehran, Iran today. COAS General Raheel Sharif and SAPM Mr Tariq Fatemi accompanied the Prime Minister on the visit. The Prime Minister will hold an important meeting with Iranian President Hassan Rohani in Tehran. Pakistan wants that the prevailing tensions between Saudi Arabia and Iran will die down as Pakistan wants resolution of all issues through peaceful means.
During flight from Riyadh to Tehran, the Prime Minister held consultative meeting with COAS and other senior officials. Pakistan and Iran relations and the matters regarding meeting with Saudi leadership were discussed in detail. After the consultative meeting, the Prime Minister and COAS held one-on-one meeting on the flight. Regional situation in general and Iran-Saudi Arabia relations in particular were discussed during the meeting.
On departure from Riyadh to Tehran, the Prime Minister was seen off by Governor of Riyadh and other high ranking officials at King Salman Airbase.
Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif was received by Defence Minister Hossein Dehqhan along with other high ranking officials at the airport.
The Prime Minister had a meeting with the Iranian Defence Minister at the airport, which was also attended by COAS and SAPM Mr Tariq Fatemi. The Iranian Defence Minister said to the Prime Minister, ‘Your visit (to Iran) is (happening) at a crucial time. We hope your meeting with Iranian President will be fruitful’.
