Delhi, March 17, 2016 (PPI-OT):The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students, who have been served show-cause notice to explain their role in the February 9 event, have decided not to accept the report of a university probe panel and said that they will send their reply accordingly. The decision was taken at a JNU Students’ Council meeting.

“The inquiry report is based on an unfair probe process and hence, we refused to accept its findings… Our replies to the show-cause notice will be sent accordingly,” a member of the council said. The report has recommended rustication of five students including JNU Students Union President, Kanhaiya Kumar, Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya who are facing sedition charges.

Kanhaiya Kumar, Umar Khalid and Anirban were arrested on charges of sedition in connection with an event held at the JNU on the martyrdom anniversary of Kashmiri martyr, Muhammad Afzal Guru, on February 9. Kanhaiya was released on bail from Tihar Jail on March 3 while Umar and Anirban are still in judicial custody. The participants had raised questions over the secret hanging of Afzal Guru and had shouted slogans hailing him.
