Govt lauded for timely intervention in ICST affairs
Islamabad, October 18, 2016 (PPI-OT): A former senior official of the Islamabad Chamber of Small Traders (ICST) has lauded the government for timely intervention in the affairs of chamber.
The intervention of Director General Trade Organisations (DGTO) an arm of Ministry of Commerce has barred some elements from hijacking the chamber, said former Vice President of ICST Tahir Yasin.
In a statement issued here today, he said that DGTO has declared election of the president of ICST null and void which is a laudable move.
He said that many malpractices took place during last three years in this trade association therefore government should conduct audit of last three years to unmask the culprits.
Tahir Yasin said that the election of the president of the chamber has been declared null and void by the DGTO and orders were issued to conduct election of the president within one week time which is laudable, however the election of the rest of the office bearers was also against the law.
He informed that three-member election commission was appointed by seven members of the executive committee while the legal requirement is the nod of eighteen members of the executive committee.
The administration of the chamber has collected Rs7500 from every member of the executive committee in the name of the fee but the same has not been deposited in the account of the chamber but embezzled.
He demanded impartial inquiry by the competent authority into the affairs of the chamber along with steps to bar non-elected elements from getting to helm.
