Traders call for shifting of Courts from F-8 Markaz

Islamabad, December 06, 2016 (PPI-OT): A delegation of Traders Welfare Association F-8 Markaz, Islamabad led by its President Sardar Tahir Mehmood visited Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry to highlight issues of their market. Sardar Tahir Mehmood said that presence of district courts in F-8 Markaz was a major cause of problems for business activities and called upon the government to shift these courts from F-8 Markaz as early as possible to save businesses from further losses.

He said existence of district courts in one of the major business centres of Islamabad was not only dangerous for the precious lives of honourable judges and lawyers, it was also creating difficulties for the residents of the area due to heavy rush of people. He called upon the local administration to complete the Islamabad High Court building as soon as possible because till the completion of said building, shifting of courts from F-8 was not possible.

He said absence of a rent control act in Islamabad was giving rise to rent disputes of traders and they were feeling insecure about the future of their business. He stressed that government should promulgate a balanced rent control law in Islamabad to address this long standing issue of trading community.

Addressing the delegation, Khalid Iqbal Malik, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry that district courts should not be located in a business area due to security reasons. He said already many people have lost their lives due to terrorism in district courts compound and government should relocate these courts to a safer place for the safety of judges and lawyers.

He said shifting of the Chief Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner offices from F-8 Markaz to G-11/4 was a laudable move and stressed that government should also shift courts from F-8 to safeguard the interests of business community. He assured that ICCI was ready to cooperate with the local administration for shifting of courts from said business centre.

Khalid Malik, Senior Vice President ICCI, Tahir Ayub, Vice President ICCI, Mian Akram Farid, M. Ejaz Abbasi, Ismail Khan, Bashir Maghut and others were also present at the occasion.
