Israeli forces arrest Palestinian MP Mohamed al-Tal
Ramallah (IINA) Israel’s occupation forces on Tuesday detained Palestinian Member of Parliament Mohamed al-Tal, amid escalated attacks against Palestinian MPs since the starts of 2017, the Palestinian Information Center reported citing a rights group.
Al-Tal’s arrest has brought the total number of Palestinian MPs held in Israeli custody to 11, the Palestinian Center for Prisoners Studies said.
Spokesman for the Center Riyad al-Ashqar pointed out that al-Tal, who suffers from many health problems including diabetes, hypertension and tachycardia, spent 10 years in Israeli jails mostly in administrative detention.
Al-Ashqar said since the beginning of the year, Israel arrested five Palestinian MPs, bringing the overall number of deputies held in Israeli jails to 11.
He stressed that the 11 freely-elected parliamentarians are held in Israeli jails without any legal basis, in a total violation of international laws, calling on parliaments around the world to intervene for their immediate release.
