OIC chief meets Central African Republic president
New York, Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Dr. Yousef A. Al-Othaimeen met President of the Central African Republic Prof. Faustin Archange Touadera on Thursday on the sidelines of the 72nd Session of the UNGA in New York. They reviewed the latest developments in the country.
President Touadera, who briefed the secretary general on his peace-building efforts, also expressed appreciation of the OIC for its overall support to his country and its peace initiative, which contributed significantly to the successful conduct of the general election that brought him to power thus paving way for the restoration of democratic institutions in CAR.
He further thanked the secretary general for dispatching last month an OIC Need Assessment Mission. He finally urged the OIC to sustain and enhance its engagement particularly in the process of national reconciliation.
On his part, the OIC secretary general assured President Touadera of the commitment of the OIC to continue to support CAR in its stabilization, development, and national reconciliation agenda.
He noted with happiness the gratitude of CAR to the OIC for its contributions to the peace building process and pointed out that the Organization will remain on the side of CAR and all its people without discrimination until they fully realize their aspirations for durable peace and development in an inclusive manner.
