Egyptian president, Jordanian PM discuss Middle East issues

Cairo Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi received on Tuesday Jordanian Prime Minister Hani Mulki durng which they discussed ways to further cement ties between their countries, especially in economic spheres, as well as a number of Middle East issues.

The meeting reviewed the latest developments in the region, especially in Syria and Iraq. In this context, they stressed the importance of finding political solutions to the crises experienced by a number of Arab countries.

Mulki and President El-Sisi also discussed ways to foster military cooperation between Jordan and Egypt.

During the meeting, El-Sisi said his country is looking forward to closer cooperation and coordination between the two countries. He spoke about his country’s efforts to address challenges and bring about reforms in various domains.

For his part, the Jordanian prime minister underlined the importance of enforcing agreements signed between the two countries and facilitating the exchange of goods and Jordanian exports to Egypt, as well as the registration of Jordanian medicines in the Egyptian market.

Mulki also emphasized the need to enhance coordination between Jordan and Egypt with regard to the reconstruction of Iraq and Syria, saying Jordan could serve as a springboard for reconstruction efforts in these two countries.

During his official visit to Egypt on Tuesday, the premiere held two meetings with his Egyptian counterpart, Sharif Ismail, and Defense Minister Major-General Sedki Sobhy, according to Petra News Agency.

The prime minister’s visit to Egypt is part of the government’s intensive efforts to enhance opportunities for the national economy, intensify Jordanian-Egyptian economic cooperation and boost national export opportunities.

In his meeting with Egyptian Prime Minister Ismail, Mulki underlined the importance of the two countries’ commitment to implementing all the agreements signed between the two countries, especially the recently agreed-upon during the meetings of the Joint Jordanian-Egyptian Higher Committee in their 26th and 27th sessions held during the last two years.

The prime minister called on the Egyptian side to facilitate procedures related to the implementation of the bilateral agreement on reducing transit fees by 50 percent on grain carriers, cruise ships and container vessels serving the port of Aqaba via the Suez Canal.

Mulki also stressed the need to implement the memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the field of pharmaceutical within the specified time frame by completing the number of Jordanian medicines registered in Egypt to reach 60 drug varieties, stressing on excluding the condition of registering Jordanian medicine in a reference country.

Egyptian prime minister lauded bilateral ties and voiced keenness to promote joint cooperation in various fields.

Both sides agreed on studying the establishment of a joint logistic center to contribute to the reconstruction efforts in Syria and Iraq.

The meeting also touched on proposals to increase cooperation in the fields of tourism and aviation and enhancing communication between businessmen in both countries to support coordination and cooperation in various economic fields and to identify new investment opportunities.

In his meeting with the Egyptian Defense Minister, the premier discussed areas of cooperation and exchange of military expertise between the two countries and the war on terrorism.
