Open Society Announces a $10 Million Emergency Fund for Afghan Civilians in Peril

New York, Aug. 13, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The Open Society Foundations announced today the creation of a $10 million Afghanistan emergency fund to support Afghans in grave danger—including champions of human rights, women’s rights, and journalists—by expanding immediate protection opportunities.

The Afghanistan Emergency Humanitarian Fund will help support sponsorship for humanitarian parole programs in the United States that provide a pathway to temporary refuge for those in harm’s way. It will bolster international relief organizations in their efforts to support Afghan citizens fleeing the Taliban advance. And the fund will aid other efforts to deliver humanitarian relief to internally displaced Afghans and those fleeing to other countries taking them in.

Open Society invites other donors to join these efforts to address this humanitarian emergency.

“The Open Society Foundations have long worked in Afghanistan to promote human rights, culture, and freedom of expression,” said President Mark Malloch-Brown. “We remain deeply committed to Afghans and their efforts to help the country advance toward a more open society. Three terrorists killed by security forces in Balochistan

Three terrorists have been killed by the security forces during an exchange of fire near Shahrig, Loralai, Balochistan.

According to the ISPR, terrorists fire raid on FC Balochistan vehicle.

The FC troops responded promptly and killed 3 terrorists.

In exchange of fire Naik Sharif embraced shahadat while Major Qasim and a soldier were injured.

Change of guard ceremony held at mausoleum of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah

Change of guard ceremony was held at the mausoleum of Founder of Pakistan, Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah in Karachi today (Saturday).

A smartly turned out contingent of the cadets from the Pakistan Naval Academy assumed ceremonial guard duties at the mausoleum with traditional spirit and customary enthusiasm.

Commandant Pakistan Naval Academy Commodore Sohail Ahmed was the chief guest of the ceremony.

Commodore Sohail Ahmed also laid a floral wreath at the mausoleum of Founder of Pakistan and offered Fateha.

Meanwhile, a graceful change of guard ceremony was also held at mausoleum of Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal in connection with the Independence Day of Pakistan in Lahore today.

A smartly turned out contingent of Pakistan Army assumed the guard duties at the Mazar-e-Iqbal.

Marching to the band tunes, the contingent of took positions at the four corners of the Mazar.

The ceremonial guard mounting was followed by floral wreath laying at the Mazar of Allama Iqbal by General Officer Commanding 10-Division Major General Muhammad Aneeq-ur-Rehman Malik to pay homage to the National poet.

Radio Pakistan also celebrated its birthday on eve of Independence Day

Radio Pakistan (Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation) also celebrated its birthday on the eve of Independence Day today (Saturday).

Radio Pakistan came into being along with Pakistan and it has a privilege to announce the Independence of Pakistan from British India on 14th August 1947.

PTDC organizes vehicle rally to mark Independence Day

In connection with Independence Day of Pakistan, a vehicle rally was organized in Islamabad ton Saturday.

The rally organized by the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation stared from D-Chowk and culminated at F-9 Park.

The rally was also aimed at promoting positive image of the country and showcasing its tourism potential.

On the occasion, tree plantation event was also held and the participants planted saplings in line with the government’s vision of Clean Green Pakistan.

Speaking on the occasion, Managing Director of Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation Aftab-ur-Rehman Rana said Pakistan is a beautiful and peaceful country and provides tremendous opportunities of tourism.

Pakistan rejects misleading Indian statement regarding encounter in Kulgam

Pakistan has categorically rejected the irresponsible and misleading statement by the Indian officials, which levelled false allegations against Pakistan in connection with an encounter in the Kulgam area of the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

In a statement, Foreign Office spokesperson Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri said it is ironic that without any corroboration, the Indian government has once again resorted to levelling serious allegations against Pakistan.

He said this is typical Indian strategy to shift blames, employ unfounded assertions against Pakistan as a smokescreen, and seek to undermine the indigenous struggle for self-determination of the people of IIOJK.

The spokesperson called upon India to refrain from its reprehensible propaganda campaign as no number of Indian falsehoods can succeed in diverting attention from India’s serious crimes in IIOJK.

Country heading in right direction to become strong nation: President

President Arif Alvi says Pakistan is an emerging nation, on the course of rapid development.

Addressing the nation after unfurling national flag at the main flag hoisting ceremony at Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad on Saturday, the President said the country is heading in right direction to become a strong nation.

Paying glowing tributes to struggle and sacrifices of founding fathers, President Arif Alvi recalled that the country achieved major successes in different fields and surmounted many challenges ever since its independence.

He stressed the need to inculcate a hope in the nation and reject all sorts of negative propaganda and fake news against the country.

Dr Arif Alvi said though Pakistan suffered human and material losses in the war against terrorism but came out victorious for which our security forces, society and the people deserve appreciation for defeating the terrorism which the super powers failed to achieve.

President Arif Alvi said Prime Minister Imran Khan set an example of compassion during the pandemic by pursuing a pro poor policy.

The President said despite Covid-19, our economy is on the growth trajectory.

He also appreciated the initiatives of Naya Pakistan Housing Scheme, Kamyab Jawan and Ten Billion Tree Tsunami programs.

Dr Arif Alvi said Pakistani nation demonstrated its morality and values by hosting millions of Afghan refugees.

He said it is because of the nation’s capability and talent that it achieved the capability of nuclear deterrence in a matter of seven years after India conducted the nuclear tests in 1974.

President Arif Alvi said despite three wars were imposed on Pakistan and it was entangled in the arms race, but now it is turning into an industrial and IT state and the nation is leading the country towards knowledge economy.

He said that the present government had offered peace to India when it came to power, but India misconstruing the offer as weakness, resorted to aggression against Pakistan which was befittingly responded.

Alluding to the Indian atrocities in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, President Arif Alvi said the world community should take notice of the dire situation.

He said India is trying to change the demographic structure of the disputed territory through its illegal steps. He said the RSS ideology poses a threat to the regional peace.

The President said the minorities within India especially the Muslims are not even safe because of this extremist ideology.

Referring to the recent Lahore incident, the President said India is also involved in acts to sabotage Pakistan’s peace.

Voicing concerns over the current situation in Afghanistan, the President asked the parties to pursue the course of peace.

He said Pakistan desires peace in the neighbouring country as the conflict there affects Pakistan the most.
