Government to resolve Problems of Textile Sector on Fast-Track Basis: Prime Minister
Islamabad, July 11, 2012 (PPI-OT): A delegation of All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) led by its Chairman Mr. Mohsin Aziz called on Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf at the Prime Minister’s House today and discussed problems facing the textile industry.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister shared the news which just came regarding the enactment of a bill by the EU Parliament giving increased market access to Pakistani exports.
The Prime Minister constituted a committee consisting of Secretary Finance, Secretary Petroleum and Mr. Gohar Ejaz, representative from APTMA, to meet tomorrow and come up with a solution to import gas on fast-track basis within three to six months to meet the total requirements of the country.
The Prime Minister said that the textile industry was very important and was indeed the backbone of the economy, contributing more than 50% share in the country’s total export volume.
The Prime Minister directed the Secretary Finance to look into the problems pertaining to credit availability at affordable rates. The Prime Minister assured the delegation that the problem of energy shortage will be resolved as the industry was providing millions of jobs to the people around the country.
The Chairman APTMA and other members of the delegation congratulated the Prime Minister on his assumption of the office of Prime Minister of Pakistan, adding that the country would convert challenges into opportunities under his leadership.
