Passengers unhurt – Pakistan International Airlines aircraft skidded off runway on landing due to heavy rains at Lahore

Karachi, August 31, 2012 (PPI-OT): An ATR aircraft carrying 42 passengers and 04 crew members on a normal flight PK-653 from Islamabad to Lahore on landing skidded off the runway due to heavy rains. PIA spokesman said here on Friday.

The pilot controlled the situation, the aircraft was brought under control but the main gear of the aircraft collapsed. The passengers and the crew remained unhurt and through buses shifted to the passengers lounge.

The damage to the aircraft is being assessed. A board of inquiry will be conducted into the incidence.
