Continued detention of Hurriyet leaders denounced

Srinagar, March 11, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has denounced the continued detention of Hurriyet leaders and activists by Indian police in the territory.

The APHC Chairman, who is himself under house arrest at his residence in Srinagar, in a media interview said that raids were being conducted by Indian forces on the houses of the Hurriyet leaders and inmates were being harassed. He said that senior Hurriyet leaders had been confined to their houses and other leaders and activists had been lodged at different police stations.

He expressed concern over the use of brute force by the Indian troops in Srinagar, Baramulla, Pulwama, Kulgam and other areas of the Valley and said that India could not suppress the Kashmiris’ movement for freedom.

The authorities have placed Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Syed Ali Gilani, Muhammad Yasin Malik and Mukhtar Ahmad Waza under house arrest, while Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Ghulam Nabi Zaki, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai and other Hurriyet leaders and activists have lodged at different police stations of the territory.

Meanwhile, senior APHC leader, Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi Al-Safvi in a statement condemned the attack of Hindu extremists of Shiv Sena and BJP on JKLF Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik in New Delhi. He urged the international community to play its role for securing the Kashmiris’ their right to self-determination.

The Jamaat-e-Islami of occupied Kashmir, Muslim League Jammu and Kashmir leader, Abdul Ahad Para, Jammu, and Kashmir Peoples Freedom League in their statements and Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Movement at a meeting at Mandher, Poonch condemned the use of pepper gas and other lethal weapons by Indian forces against the Kashmiris.
