Army occupies near 6 lakh kanals of IHK land, admits Antony
New Delhi, March 14, 2013 (PPI-OT): Indian Defence Minister AK Antony has acknowledged that Indian troops have occupied approximately 6 lakh kanals of land in occupied Kashmir.
AK Antony, replying to a question in Rajya Sabha gave area-wise details of land occupancy. He said that under the jurisdiction of Defence Estate Office (DEO) of Udhampur that comprises Doda, Udhampur, Ramban, Rajouri, Poonch, Reasi, Kishtwar and Jammu, 209,239 kanals of land are under army occupation.
Under DEO, Srinagar, which comprises Islamabad, Budgam, Ganderbal, Kulgam, Pulwama, Shopian and Srinagar, the Army occupies 56,221.2 kanals of land, Antony said. He said army occupies 1,82,433.8 kanals in DEO Leh/Kargil, while in DEO Jammu—Jammu, Samba and Kathua—Army occupies 71,664.72 kanals of land.
In north Kashmir, Antony said, Army occupies 55,398.4 kanals in Baramulla, Kupwara and Bandipora districts.
