Inform Masarrat Aalam before PSA detention: Indian SC
Srinagar, March 23, 2013 (PPI-OT): Indian Supreme Court has directed the puppet authorities of occupied Kashmir to inform Hurriyet leader, Masarrat Aalam Butt, before a week if they want to book him on the same grounds on which he was detained before under the draconian Public Safety Act.
A Division Bench of Supreme Court headed by Justice R N Lodha passed the direction after Standing Counsel for the puppet administration of the territory, Sunil Fernandes, informed the court that the authorities had revoked the detention order against Aalam on March 18, 2013.
“Disposing of the petition, the court directed the authorities to issue notice to Aalam a week before if they decided to book him under PSA on the same grounds on which he was booked earlier,” Fernandes said in a media interview.
Pertinently, in January this year, the Indian Supreme Court had issued notice to the puppet regime on a petition challenging the detention of Masarrat Aalam Butt under the black law, Public Safety Act.
The Court had granted four weeks to the puppet administration to file response to the petition submitted by Aalam’s uncle, Farooq Ahmad Butt. The petitioner had pleaded that Masarrat Aalam’s PSA detention on identical grounds was in violation of law and his fundamental rights had been infringed upon time and again by the authorities.
Farooq Ahmad Butt had pleaded that 16 successive detention orders under the PSA had been slapped against Masarrat Aalam and he was kept in almost continued custody since 1990.
