68th Independence Day celebrated with fervour and enthusiasm in Embassy of Pakistan, Kabul

Kabul, August 14, 2014 (PPI-OT): The 68th Independence Day of Pakistan was celebrated with great fervour and enthusiasm in the Embassy of Pakistan, Kabul, today. The flag hoisting ceremony commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran followed by the national anthem and hoisting of Pakistan’s flag by the Ambassador Syed Abrar Hussain.

A large number of Pakistani community attended the Independence Day celebrations. The Ambassador, in his address, highlighted the historical significance of the day and paid homage to our founding fathers whose untiring efforts and enormous sacrifices led to the creation of a separate homeland for the Muslims of the Sub-continent on 14th August, 1947. The messages of the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan were also read out.

Speaking on the occasion, the Ambassador urged the participants to work with greater dedication and commitment for the development and stability of the country as Pakistan had been achieved after a long struggle and sacrifices.

He said that it was incumbent upon the entire nation to follow the ideals and guiding principles of the Father of the Nation, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah i.e. Unity, Faith and Discipline in letter and spirit which are sources of strength and unity.

While addressing the participants, the Ambassador underscored the need for stronger cooperation between Afghanistan and Pakistan. He said that Afghanistan was very important neighbour of Pakistan and we would continue to play our role for the promotion of peace and prosperity in Afghanistan.

He informed the participants that the Prime Minister of Pakistan accorded utmost priority to improving its relations with its brotherly country, Afghanistan, in all areas including, economy, culture and energy. He said that the Prime Minister enhanced the amount of assistance for the development and reconstruction in Afghanistan to US$ 500 million during his visit to Kabul on 30th November 2013.

He also highlighted a number of projects built by Pakistan for the social and economic advancement of Afghanistan , including 400-bed Jinnah Hospital, Kabul; Nishtar Kidney Centre, Jalalabad; 200-bed Naeb Aminullah Khan Hospital, Logar; Liaquat Ali Khan University Balkh, Rehman Baba School and Hostel, Kabul; Allama Iqbal Faculty of Arts, Kabul, Sir Syed Post Graduate Faculty of Sciences, Nangarhar University and 75 km Torkham-Jalalabad Road and would continue to assist its brotherly country in the future as well.

In order to improve regional connectivity and facilitate the Afghan people and traders, Pakistan is planning to construct Peshawar-Jalalabad Motorway and Railway link and Chaman-Kandahar Railway link.
