Capital Development Authority commited to maintain the polio free status of Islamabad
Islamabad, August 07, 2013 (PPI-OT): Capital Development Authority (CDA) will utilize all available resources to maintain the polio free status of Islamabad and will try to achieve 100% coverage during up-coming Polio campaign.
This was stated by Chairman CDA, Nadeem Hassan Asif while chairing a meeting of Islamabad Polio Eradication Committee held at CDA Headquarters here on Wednesday. Member Administration CDA, Munir Ahmed Chaudhry, Director Health Services, Dr. Hassan Urooj, Country representatives of World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations International Children Education Fund (UNICEF), UN-Habitat, Islamabad Capital administration (ICT), Islamabad Police, Islamabad Traffic Police(ITP) and officers of CDA also participated the meeting.
The Chairman, CDA said that Islamabad has been a polio free city since 2008 which is an honour for the authority but we need sheer hard work to maintain this status. He said that all available resources would be provided to Directorate of Health Services so that upcoming Polio Eradication campaign could be turned into a complete success.
He said Islamabad Police Islamabad will depute highly qualified, trained, motivated and dedicated staff to provide security to the Polio teams and throughout the campaign their presence will be ensured. He directed Director Health Services to ensure that during campaign 1, 31, 000 children residing in the Federal Capital should be administered with polio drops.
While apprising chairman CDA, Director Health Services said that operationally Islamabad has been divided into sixteen zones and 88 areas and more than 500 polio teams will be mobilized during door to door campaign to cover each and every child.
He apprised that high risk mapping is also conducted which includes slums / 35 villages in the north of Islamabad and cope with polio in these areas strategic plan has been developed. He further apprised that during polio campaign special emphasis will be given to Katchi Abadis, High rise buildings, hard to reach areas, private and public schools.
Chairman CDA appreciated the efforts of DHS and other departments and said that joint and coordinated efforts are needed to eliminate this disease. He emphasized the importance of polio campaign in the Katchi Abadis especially I- 11 Slum which poses high risk due to massive illegal migrants from Khyber Pakhtoon Khawa (KPK) and Afghanistan.
Nadeem Hassan Asif, appreciated the efforts of (WHO), (UNICEF), UN – Habitat, Rotary Club International. JICA International, Islamabad Traffic Police, ICT, CDA Hospital and other organizations for joining their hands with CDA to maintain Islamabad a polio free city.
