Pakistan Industrial and Traders Association Front urges government to initiate working on Kalabagh Dam on war footing
Lahore, September 27, 2013 (PPI-OT): Pakistan Industrial and Traders Association Front (PIAF) has urged the government to initiate working on Kalabagh Dam on war footing as it could not only generate ceap and sufficient electricity but could also help to overcome the devastating floods. “KBD is not the issue of Punjab alone rather it belongs to the whole country and nation.”
In a press statement issued here Friday, the PIAF Chairman PIAF Malik Tahir Javed, Senior Vice Chairman Khamis Saeed Butt and Vice Chairman Amjad Ali Jawa said that Kalabag Dam is a mega project and should not be sacrificed for any political interest.
They said that recent floods had written the new stories of destruction in all the provinces. Millions people have lost their property and other assets. They said that had Kalabagh Dam been constructed a few years back, the situation would have been quite satisfactory and the volume of loss would have been much smaller.
They said that just before the flood, the country was facing acute shortage of water and power that had put the very survival of the country at stake.
They said that Kalabagh Dam was a mega project of national interest as it could easily curtail the menace of water shortage and could generate more than 3500 MW cheap electricity. And most importantly it could save the people of particularly Sindh and Balochistan from flood destruction.
The people, who are crying against Kalabagh Dam, always avoid saying a word against Baghliar and other disputed dams being constructed by India, which shows that how much they are loyal with the country. If these people do not care the interests of Pakistan, than why government took knell before them.
They said that keeping in view the devastation of recent flood, government should not waste time and start construction of KBD immediately otherwise the days are not too far when they Pakistan would have best irrigation system in the world but not water.
