Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Labour Department will hold made in Punjab exhibition

Lahore, February 03, 2014 (PPI-OT): The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) in collaboration with Labour Department will hold Made in Punjab Exhibition on the occasion of South Asia Labour Conference (SALC-2014) scheduled for April 24-26 in Lahore.

The consensus was developed at a meeting between LCCI President Engineer Sohail Lashari and Provincial Secretary Labour Capt (R) Muhammad Yousaf. LCCI Senior Vice President Mian Tariq Misbah, Vice President Kashif Anwar, former Senior Vice President Malik Tahir Javaid and Commissioner PESSI Farhan Aziz Khawaja also spoke on the occasion.

LCCI Executive Committee Members Mian Zahid Javaid Ahmad, Muhammad Afzal, Zafar Mehmood and Muhammad Haroon Arora also attended the meeting. Both the sides agreed that the SALC 2014 would a golden be opportunity for the business community of Punjab to show its strength as around 700 foreign and local dignitaries would be participating in South Asia Labour Conference and Exhibition.

The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Punjab Labour Department would join hands to make the Labour Conference and the Exhibition a big success therefore both the sides also decided to appoint their respective focal persons to enhance the interaction for the upcoming events. While throwing light on the objectives of the SALC-2014, the Secretary Labour said that the conference would not only strengthen cooperation among the labour organizations in the SAARC countries but it would also help Pakistani employers and employees to learn about the best labour practices.

He said that a number of diplomats including the Ambassadors of China and Turkey would also participate in the SALC-2014. He said that there would be many technical sessions and Labour Policy will be finalized in the light of the recommendations of the SALC speakers that would be announce on May1, 2014. European Union, International Labour Organisation (ILO) and SAARC delegations would also speak on the technical sessions of this internation conference that is first of its kind in Lahore, the Secretary Labour said. Speaking on the occasion, the LCCI President Engineer Sohail Lashari appreciated the government of Punjab for holding such a mega event aimed at highlighting the soft image of the country.

The LCCI President said that the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry would motivate its members for the said conference and the exhibition as it considers that it is the most opportune time to bring to the limelight the potential of this part of the world. Engineer Sohail Lashari, on the occasion, also declared LCCI former Senior Vice President and Chairman of the LCCI Labour Committee as Focal Person for the SALC 2014.

The LCCI President said that since a large number of foreigners were also taking part in SALC-2014, therefore the LCCI wanted business-to-business meetings on the sidelines of the conference or the exhibition. He said that it was a great initiative of the Punjab Government that would help bring foreign investment and enhance exports. He said that the proposed three day Conference would also provide an opportunity to foreign entrepreneurs to have firsthand knowledge about Pakistan’s level compliance of international standards.

The LCCI Senior Vice President Mian Tariq Misbah said that the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry was willing to take lead role for the conference and the exhibition. The LCCI Vice President Kashif Anwar said, “we are an excellent nation, we are international standards compliant, our products are best of the best but the unfortunate part is that we have failed to showcase these potentials. Now is the time to tell the world that we have best brains and are producing quality products.”
