Legal experts question Indian parliamentary body’s mandate on citizenship rights

Srinagar, January 29, 2015 (PPI-OT): Indian legal experts have questioned the recommendations put forth by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs about granting citizenship rights to non-Kashmiris, saying that the panel is not competent to deal with the subject in view of India’s own constitution.

The Congress lawmaker from West Bengal, Bhattacharya, who heads committee, in a media interview over phone from Kolkata, said, “These are just recommendations and the panel is not an executive authority.
