Islamabad, September 01, 2015 (PPI-OT): The Vice President of Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (DFP), Mehmood Ahmed Saghar, has denounced in strong terms the continued detention of Hurriyet leaders in occupied Kashmir. Mehmood Ahmed Saghar in a statement issued in Islamabad termed the action of Indian authorities as a flagrant violation of basic human rights. “Detentions and arrests of Hurriyet leaders and political activists are being used as a weapon to muzzle the voice of dissent in Kashmir. India under a well thought out policy is making all out efforts to keep genuine leadership away from the masses,” he stated.

Mehmood Ahmed Saghar pointed out that Hurriyet leaders including Syed Ali Gilani and Shabbir Ahmed Shah had been continuously placed under house arrest for last several weeks. He demanded immediate release of all illegally detained Hurriyet leaders and activists. He also appealed to the world human rights bodies to take stock of the situation in occupied Kashmir and play their role in stopping human rights abuses perpetuated by Indian troops and police in the territory.
