Abdul Qadir Patel lauds socio-economic impacts of Benazir Income Support Programme
Karachi: Member National Assembly, Mr. Abdul Qadir Patel appreciated the efforts of Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) and said that the programme has brought positive socio-economic impacts in the lives of millions affected by abject poverty. He was speaking at BISP’s Waseela-e-Haq Cheques Distribution Ceremony as Chief Guest in Karachi.
While briefing the audience about BISP’s performance, DG BISP Sindh, Jiand Khan Jamaldini said that the number of beneficiary families is expected to be increased up to 7 million soon as the Nationwide Poverty Scorecard Survey is towards the final stages of its completion.
Jiand Khan Jamaldini informed the audience that Waseela-e-Haq initiative is basically designed to promote self-employment among women beneficiaries or their nominees to improve their livelihood. It offers Rs.300, 000 long term interest free financial assistance to randomly selected beneficiary families, to be recovered in 15 years.
He also added that a Group Life Insurance Scheme has been offered to the bread earners of BISP beneficiary families through State Life Insurance Corporation Group Life Insurance Scheme has been launched and around 3 million surveyed families become entitled for this scheme. In case of death of the bread earner of the beneficiary’s family, the family will receive an amount of Rs. 1,00,000 within 90 days of the death.
In the last Mr Abdul Qadir Patel and Mr Jiand Khan Jamaldini DG BISP Sindh distributed cheques of Rs. 150,000 each amongst beneficiaries under Waseela-e- Haq scheme.
