Advisor to Chief Minister Sindh for timely completion of uplift schemes of Archives department

Karachi, January 27, 2016 (PPI-OT): Advisor to Chief Minister Sindh on Information and Archives Mr. Maula Bux Chandio has directed the officers of Archives department for timely and transparent completion of development projects adding that Archives department has pivotal role in preserving and maintaining the richest and protected centuries old government record, books and literary rare material.

This he directed while chairing a high level meeting of officers of information and Archives department to review progress on uplift schemes at Archives Department, Clifton Karachi on Wednesday. The meeting was attended among others by provincial Secretary Information and Archives Department Mr Zahid Memon, Coordinator to Advisor Information Barkat Babbar, Director Archives Sindh Zulfiqar Ali Makhdoom, Director Research Revender Eleja and Deputy Director Altaf Qureshi.

Advisor to CM Sindh directed the Archives department officers to expedite the efforts for early completion of development schemes and envisage a comprehensive plan for conducting Video interviews of personalities who are real asset of Sindh and have made remarkable achievement in different walks of life ranging from Education, Politics, Culture, History, Music, Folk lore, journalism, business, Philanthropy and other sectors.

He asked for constituting a team of experts for this purpose which should identify such personalities and conduct their interviews for highlighting their achievements in their respective fields and preserve record for present young and future generation. “This work must be done without any political affiliation, discrimination and record of all extra ordinary personalities of Sindh be preserved on merit basis” he added.

During the Briefing, Director Archives Sindh Zulfiqar Ali Makhdoom informed that work of establishment of exhibition gallery at the Archives department was in progress and it will be completed by the June 2016. He said that manuscripts, old books, other rare material and copies of old newspapers like Al-Waheed, Comrade, Taleem, Hindwasi, Sindhri, Sindhi, Jagarti will be kept in the exhibition gallery which could be used for ready reference for research purpose. He added that it will bring history to life for satisfying growing appetite of present and future researchers by making valuable national information available.

Giving the details of the uplift projects, Mr Zulfiqar Ali Makhdoom informed that presently 9 Mega development schemes are being executed in Sindh Archives which include Preservation of rare Maps, preservation of fragile judicial records(1866-1947) available at Sindh Archives, Establishment of Sindh Reprography Lab, preservation of rare manuscripts, Establishment of Exhibition Gallery (Display and Collection of collectables), Establishment of Museum, at Sindh Archives, Establishment of district Archives at Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur and Larkana. Besides repair and renovation of Sindh archives complex is also underway, he added.

Advisor Information and Archives stressed upon the officers and staff of Archives department to use their professional capacities for orderly record keeping and preservation of old and rare manuscripts and historical documents for research and ready reference for research scholars.
