Ambassador of Azerbaijan calls on the Prime Minister

Islamabad: Ambassador of Azerbaijan H.E Mr Dashqin Shikarov called on Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani at the PM’s House today and presented a cheque of two million dollars for flood victims on behalf of the President of Azerbaijan.

The Prime Minister thanked the Azerbaijan President Mr Ilham Aliyev for generous assistance which was indeed reflective of expression of his solidarity with the government of Pakistan and the people of the country.

The Prime Minister also thanked Azerbaijan government for the principled stand on Kashmir issue, financial assistance in the aftermaths of the natural calamities, floods and earthquake.

The Prime Minister directed the Chairman, Capital Development Authority to donate a plot of land in Islamabad for building a high quality school and adjoining Parks which would be a gift from the Azerbaijan President to people of Pakistan. The offer was made by the Ambassador on behalf of the Azerbaijan President during his meeting with the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister said that the government was looking forward to the recommendations of the Joint Ministerial Commission meant to boost cooperation between the two countries in different sectors including jacking up the trade between the two countries.

The Prime Minister said that it was his vision to focus on improving relations with the neighbouring countries including the countries of the Central Asian Republics which have close geographical proximity with Pakistan.

The Azerbaijan Ambassador called for commencement of PIA flights between the two countries describing it as a kingpin to improve people to people contacts and trade.

The Azerbaijan Ambassador extended an invitation to the Prime Minister on behalf of the Azerbaijan President to visit the country which the Prime Minister accepted with gratitude adding that date for this visit would be worked out by the Foreign Ministries of the two countries.
