Ambassador of Palestine apprised the advisor to prime minister on human rights, about deterioration of human rights situation in Palestine highlighting the suffering of prisoners in Israeli jails
Islamabad: Mr. Hazem Hussain Abu Shanab, Ambassador of Palestine in Pakistan called on the Advisor to Prime Minister on Human Rights, Mr. Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar on 15th of December at his office. The Ambassador apprised the Advisor about deterioration of human rights situation in Palestine and especially the conditions of the prisoners languishing in the jails of Israel.
The Ambassador stated that Israel is taking steps to forbid the Palestinians from visiting the Al-Aqsa Mosque. In a recent move, Israel destroyed one of the bridges leading toward the Mosque. It is in fact a violation of the religious rights of all Muslims. While mentioning the deplorable conditions of the prisoners in Israeli Jails, the Ambassador stated that these prisoners are different from ordinary prisoners.
They are not criminals but in fact they are the heroes of Palestine and freedom fighters. It is the responsibility of the international community to pressurize Israel to release these prisoners and also stop Israel from arresting people struggling for their freedom. In the jails, the conditions of such prisoners are very tragic and they are subjected to the severe torture.
They are kept in jails while violating all canons of the criminal judicial system of any civilized nation. While condemning the atrocities committed by Israel, the Advisor mentioned that the relations between Pakistan and Palestine have always been solid, brotherly and on strong footings. He also committed that Pakistan would continue to raise such violations at the international level.
He specifically condemned Israel’s treatment of Palestinian prisoners. He fully supported the proposal for creation of an independent viable Palestinian state according to the international documents and resolutions. The Advisor also reiterated Pakistan’s support for the right of self-determination of the Palestinians.
The Palestinian Ambassador also appreciated the recent initiatives of the Advisor and the Ministry for uplifting human rights conditions in Pakistan. He praised the young and dynamic leadership of the Advisor for uplift and promotion of Human Rights in Pakistan.
