Applications sought for construction of 1000 flats in Karachi and Hyderabad
Islamabad: A meeting of the Sub-Committee of the Senate Standing Committee on Labour and Manpower was held under the chairmanship of Senator Humayun Khan Mandokhel at EOBI Office in Karachi.
Senator Rehmat Ullah Khan Kakar and Senator Almas Parveen were also present in the meeting.
The officials of Labour Department, Govt. of Sindh informed that the allotment process of 1000 flats constructed at Gulshan-e-Mehmar Karachi (near Northern Bypass) and Hyderabad advertised in leading newspapers seeking applications from eligible workers.
The committee advised that the process may be completed at the earliest on purely merit basis.
The committee was informed of 4 abandoned projects of the construction of workers colonies (3 in Ghotki and 1 in Larkha).
The committee advised that the contractors of the incomplete projects may be approached through court of law for the recovery of the guarantee money from them and in case of their disagreement, the contract may be cancelled and new tender may be sought immediately for the workers.
The chairman EOBI, Mr. Zafar Iqbal Gondal, informed that the investment in the Stock Exchange through public and private sectors was made for the purchase of shares.
The committee advised that the purchase of shares may only be made from the companies which are earning profits and are well reputed to save the workers’ money as they belong to the poor class.
