FM reaffirms commitment to DCO’s mission of digital prosperity

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar met Deemah Al Yahya, the Secretary-General of the Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO), in Riyadh.

The meeting centered on fostering multi-stakeholder collaboration to bridge the digital divide and exploring avenues for promoting financial inclusion through digital economy with specific focus on empowering women and youth.

During the discussion, Ishaq Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to the mission of the Digital Cooperation Organization, emphasizing the country’s dedication to enabling digital prosperity.

The meeting underscored the importance of collective efforts in leveraging digital technologies to drive socio-economic development and create opportunities for all segments of society.

Highlighting Pakistan’s pivotal role in advancing the objectives of the Digital Cooperation Organization, the Foreign Minister announced that Pakistan will have the honor of hosting the inaugural DCO-WEF Digital Foreign Direct Investm
ent (FDI) Forum later this year.

PM, Saudi Crown Prince discuss bilateral, regional issues

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif attended the Special Dialogue and Gala Dinner hosted by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on the sidelines of the Special Meeting of the World Economic Forum in Riyadh.

During the event, the Prime Minister exchanged views with the Crown Prince, and congratulated the Saudi leadership on the successful organization of the WEF Special Meeting and the excellent arrangements by the hosts.

The Prime Minister conveyed his prayers and good wishes for the health, happiness and long life of The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques His Majesty King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. In addition to bilateral ties, the regional situation, particularly with regards to the crisis in Gaza, was also discussed.

The Prime Minister reiterated his invitation to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to undertake an official visit to Pakistan at his earliest convenience.

While recalling their recent meeting in Makkah during his visit to Saudi Arabia in Ramadan, the Prime Minister thanked the Crow
n Prince for sending a high-powered delegation to Pakistan led by Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah.

The delegation held extensive discussion with their Pakistani counterparts on ways to enhance the portfolio of Saudi investments in Pakistan.

To continue the discussion, the Prime Minister said that he has brought with him a high-powered delegation to Riyadh, including key Ministers responsible for investment, so that follow up meetings could take place between relevant officials.

Pakistan level T20I series in 9-run victory against New Zealand

In the fifth and last T-20 match at Lahore, Pakistan beat New Zealand by 9 runs, leveling the series 2-2.

Batting first, Pakistan scored 178 runs for the loss of five wickets in allotted 20 overs.

In reply, New Zealand were all out on 169 runs in 19.2 overs.

The five-match series drew 2-2 with Pakistan winning the second and fifth T20I while New Zealand got victories in the third and fourth matches. Meanwhile, the first encounter in Rawalpindi was called off due to rain.

Pakistan working tirelessly to eradicate polio from country: PM

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif says Pakistan is working tirelessly to eradicate polio from the country and a sustained effort is required by all international partners to reach the goal of a polio-free Pakistan.

He was talking to founder and co-chair of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Bill Gates, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum’s special meeting in Riyadh today.

Thanking the Foundation for its longstanding support for polio eradication in Pakistan, the Prime Minister said the country will continue its stronger partnership with the Foundation in this regard.

He said the Gates Foundation is a trusted partner in Pakistan’s socio-economic development and we seek further collaboration in other areas including IT, science education and disaster management.

On the occasion, Bill Gates recalled the immunization and polio vaccine program in Punjab under the leadership of Shehbaz Sharif as Chief Minister and emphasized on replicating the same practice across the country to make immunization
program a success.

He acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts and said polio eradication is vital to protect future generations from this crippling disease.

The Prime Minister and Bill Gates also discussed progress on ongoing activities between Pakistan and the Foundation in the areas of immunization, nutrition, and financial inclusion.

The Prime Minister also extended an invitation to Bill Gates to visit Pakistan.

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi says India is witnessing highest rate of inflation and unemployment.

Addressing a rally in Maharashtra, she said about three million government posts are vacant in the central government but the Modi government has not filled them.

Priyanka Gandhi said Modi government wants to change the Constitution to take away the basic rights from people.

‘IIOJK witnessing upsurge in arrests, CASOs & harassment of youth’

The political experts and analysts say Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing the worst crackdown and search operations in the wake of Lok Sakha elections in the territory.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Srinagar-based political analysts, in their interviews and statements, deplored the arrest of the youth under draconian laws.

They said the Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir is reeling under an unprecedented crackdown, marked by a surge in arbitrary arrests and brutal harassment of youth.

They pointed out that the arbitrary arrests are aimed at terrorizing the peace and freedom-loving people.

The analysts said that India is using black laws, including the Public Safety Act, Armed Forces Special Powers Act and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act to stifle dissent in the territory.

Meanwhile, President of Peoples Democratic Party, Mehbooba Mufti has highlighted the urgent need for the restoration of basic rights including the restoration of Article 370 which was revoked
in August 2019.

Addressing party conventions in Poonch, she also brought to light the scarcity of essential services, such as electricity, clean drinking water, and education, in the occupied territory.

She said, the article 370 was a constitutional provision that granted special autonomy to Jammu and Kashmir, allowing the state to have its own constitution and control over its affairs.

PM vows to put Pakistan’s economy back on track through prudent policies

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expresses the committed to put Pakistan’s economy back on track through structural reforms, strict fiscal discipline and prudent policies to ensure macro-economic stability and sustained economic growth.

He was talking to Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund Ms Kristalina Georgieva, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum Special Meeting in Riyadh today.

This was the first meeting between the Prime Minister and the Managing Director IMF since his re-election. They last met in Paris in June last year on the margins of the Summit for New Global Financial Pact.

The Prime Minister thanked Ms. Georgieva for her support to Pakistan in securing the three billion dollars Standby Arrangement from the IMF last year that is now nearing its completion. The IMF Executive Board is expected to meet tomorrow to decide on the final tranche of 1.1 billion dollars under the Standby Arrangement.

The Managing Director of IMF appreciated the leadership of Prime Minister Muham
mad Shehbaz Sharif for timely securing the Standby Arrangement last year.

Both sides also discussed Pakistan entering into another IMF program to ensure that the gains made in the past year are consolidated and its economic growth trajectory remains positive.

The Managing Director shared her institution’s perspective on the ongoing program with Pakistan, including the review process.

Shehbaz Sharif also extended a cordial invitation to the Managing Director IMF to visit Pakistan at her convenience.
