Barrister Sundas Calls Out Global Silence on Human Rights in Jammu and Kashmir

Islamabad: In an exclusive interview with Radio Pakistan, Barrister Sundas Malik, an expert on Lawfare and Human Rights in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), criticized the international community’s silence on the human rights violations in the region, emphasizing the need for a plebiscite as per United Nations Security Council resolutions.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Barrister Sundas condemned India’s unilateral actions, particularly the revocation of Article 370, which she described as unjustified and illegitimate. She stressed that these actions were aimed at altering the demographic composition of the region, a move compounded by the abrogation of Article 35-A.

Barrister Sundas expressed her dismay over the lack of international response, suggesting that sanctions could be imposed on the Indian government to pressure a reversal of the August 5, 2019 actions. She highlighted that economic interests often overshadow humanitarian concerns within the international community, which has led to continued inaction.

Furthermore, she pointed out the discriminatory laws and policies enacted by Indian authorities against minorities in the region, and the ongoing suppression and intimidation faced by local businessmen, farmers, and residents. Barrister Sundas called for humanitarian concerns to take precedence over economic interests to foster progress in IIOJK.
