Basir Shamsie Sets New National Record in Striped Marlin Fishing

Karachi: Mr. Basir Shamsie, President and CEO of JS Bank, has achieved a significant milestone in the realm of game fishing by setting a new national record for catching a Striped Marlin. The Pakistan Game Fish Association (PGFA), which is affiliated with the International Game Fish Association, awarded Mr. Shamsie the Record Striped Marlin Certificate.

Mr. Shamsie accomplished this feat by landing a 198.4-pound Striped Marlin approximately 40 nautical miles offshore of Karachi. The fish measured 110.4 inches in length and had a girth of 40 inches. Known for their speed and challenge, the Striped Marlin was reeled in after an intense 75-minute struggle using the trolling method. This achievement underscores the growing popularity of game fishing along Pakistan’s extensive coastline.

In his remarks, Mr. Shamsie highlighted the unique connection game fishing offers with nature and the importance of marine conservation. He praised the PGFA for promoting ethical fishing practices and emphasizing the protection of marine ecosystems.

The PGFA also acknowledged Mr. Hassan Sohail, Director at Unibro Industries, for his significant contributions to the sport. Mr. Sohail, an accomplished angler, was recognized for catching and releasing three juvenile Marlins and holds the national record for Blue Marlin. His efforts in promoting sustainable fishing practices are appreciated by the PGFA and the Karachi fishing community.

As local interest and international engagement in sportfishing increase, Pakistan’s community continues to expand. Organizations like the PGFA play a crucial role in promoting both excellence in the sport and responsibility towards the environment.
