BISP Chairperson and PPP Sindh President Discuss Expansion and Women’s Issues in Karachi Meeting

Karachi: In a significant assembly today at the Provincial Assembly, Chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), Senator Rubina Khalid, met with Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Sindh Chapter President, Senator Nisar Ahmad Khuhro. The discussion revolved around the expansion of BISP’s outreach to women and tackling the hurdles they encounter with the programme.

According to Press Information Department, the meeting highlighted BISP’s ongoing initiatives to enhance awareness, deliver training, and collaborate with Union Councils and women’s groups to empower women across Sindh. Efforts to foster financial literacy were pointed out as crucial for aiding impoverished women to uplift their families economically. The partnership with the Sindh Government facilitates the provision of skill-based training and additional support through local UCs and women’s wings. The Chairperson tackled previous criticisms of BISP, attributing them to misinformation, and outlined measures against those deceiving the beneficiaries. An emphasis was laid on increasing community awareness and monitoring the registration process more closely to prevent issues.

Both leaders committed to pushing forward the expansion of BISP and advancing skill development programs for the well-being of the women beneficiaries throughout the region. Among the attendees were the President of the Women’s Organization, Shaughta Jamali, and other high-ranking officials. In a prior meeting, Chairperson Khalid also engaged with Provincial Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani, discussing support for BISP-registered families, including free birth certificates and access to the new Benazir Skill Development Program.
