Bokhari orders inquiry against officials of Ministry of Interior
Islamabad, September 13, 2012 (PPI-OT): Chairman NAB Admiral (Retd) Fasih Bokhari presided over the Executive Board meeting held today and authorized an inquiry against officials of Ministry of Interior. The accused persons were alleged for misuse of authority in awarding the contract for procurement of goods and services for the purpose of establishing a Command and Network center at Islamabad for US $ 124 million to Hauwei Tech Company Ltd.
The project is known as Safe City Project. Based on constitutional petition, honorable Supreme Court of Pakistan in its judgment dated 23 August 2012 declared the contract illegal and referred the case to the NAB with the direction to ensure appropriate proceedings in the case. The Board directed the investigation team to proceed ahead in accordance with the direction of the SC.
The Board authorized verification in a complaint against Tahir Mehmud, Ex-Accountant General AJ and K presently posted in Auditor General of Pakistan and transferred the case to NAB Rawalpindi for further proceedings. The accused person was alleged for embezzlement of Rs 5.47 million in the funds of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Council Secretariat Islamabad.
The Board decided to close an inquiry against Munawar Hussain Cheema, Ex-Additional Dy Commissioner (Consolidation) Lahore where the accused person was alleged for illegal allotment of resumed land of Qazailbash Waqf (trust) measuring 361K-13M to tenants under land reforms 1972.
During inquiry proceedings, allegations against the accused person could not be established. It was also established that no such illegal act had been committed by the accused involving loss to the national exchequer.
The Board also decided to close another inquiry against Aurangzeb khan, Ex-DO (R and E) Karak, presently serving as Secretary Local Government and Rural Development KP for want of incriminating evidence. In this case accused person was alleged for accumulating assets beyond known sources of income.
