British Council, Higher Education Commission Organize Series of CALL Workshops

Islamabad: A series of workshops on Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) is being organized by the English Language Teaching Reforms (ELTR) Project of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) in collaboration with the British Council from November 30 to December 17 at Islamabad, Multan and Karachi.

The first workshop of the series opened at HEC Secretariat Islamabad. As many as 20 participants from different universities and colleges are attending the workshop.

Prof. Dr. Khwaja Azam Ali, Managing Director, Quality Assurance Agency (QAA), HEC was the chief guest on the occasion. Mr. Nik Peachy is the resource person for the whole series.

Mr. Ray Brown, English Language Adviser, British Council and Mr. Murad Khan, Head of Programmes (English) represented the British Council. Ms Noor Amna Malik, Director General (Learning Innovation) HEC was also present.

The workshops are aimed at providing all-out international exposure to English faculty of colleges and universities. HEC has been endeavouring to ensure that, along with the universities, the quality of teaching process is also enhanced at the college level.

The CALL workshops provide the participants not only the international level understanding of E-Learning, but also focuses on other computer technologies. Innovative modern techniques are used to impart the new concepts of CALL.

The workshop focused on need analysis and classroom research tools, social book marking, RSS and information feeds and sources, working in virtual learning environment, twitter and creating personal learning.

Mr. Nik Peachy said that online learning and modern technology are quite important in effective learning process. He emphasized that an online community will be developed for continuous learning process.
