Cabinet Acts to Stabilize Urea Fertilizer Prices, Expands Privatization Board

Islamabad: In a decisive move to stabilize the agricultural sector, the Federal Cabinet has mandated measures to prevent any increase in urea fertilizer prices and ensure a consistent gas supply to urea plants. This decision aims to support farmers by maintaining low production costs. The directives were issued during a cabinet meeting held today in Islamabad, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the cabinet underscored agriculture as the country’s backbone, emphasizing the importance of reducing costs for farmers to enhance agricultural productivity. The meeting also resulted in the expansion of the Privatization Board’s membership from eight to eleven, with the addition of three female members, reflecting the Prime Minister’s commitment to increasing women’s representation in significant national roles.

Further decisions included the approval of a comprehensive privatization strategy for State-Owned Enterprises already slated for denationalization and the regularization of teachers working on daily wages in the Federal Directorate of Education. The cabinet also green-lighted the signing of Memoranda of Understanding for political consultation with Guatemala and Ecuador.
