Senate Polls: ECP extends time for filing of nomination papers

Election Commission of Pakistan has extended the time for filing of nomination papers for Senate elections for the convenience of the candidates.

A spokesperson of the Election Commission said the candidates can now file their nomination papers with the returning officers till six pm today.

Govt announces to maintain petroleum price for next fortnight

The Government has announced to maintain the price of petrol for next fortnight while reducing the price of high-speed diesel.

According to the notification, the price of petrol will remain unchanged at 279.75 rupees per litre. However, there has been a reduction of 1.77 rupees per litre in the price of high-speed diesel, bringing it down to 285.56 rupees per litre.

Punjab Govt distributing Ramadan hampers among 6.4 million families

Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari has said the provincial government is making all out efforts to provide relief to the people during Ramadan.

Addressing a news conference in Lahore today, along with Food Minister Bilal Yaeen, she said under the Ramadan Nigehban Package, special hampers containing daily use items are being distributed to over six point four million deserving families at their doorstep.

Azma Bukhari said that an authority is being established to monitor prices of essential commodities.

UN moot calls for strong political will to deal with climate threats

A Climate moot, hosted by Pakistan at the United Nations has called for prioritizing welfare of women and children and urged to demonstrate a stronger political will to deal with the threats posed by climate change.

The panel discussion on climate change was hosted by the Permanent Mission of Pakistan to the United Nations in collaboration with the Islamic Relief Worldwide and UNICEF in New York.

The speakers agreed that urgent steps need to be taken to work out modalities for the mobilization of resources to cater to the growing financial needs for the success of the adaptation and resilience strategy.

UN adopts Pakistan’s resolution calling for special envoy against Islamophobia

The United Nations General Assembly has adopted a Pakistani resolution, by a big majority, that called for concerted action to fight ongoing violence against Muslims and requested the UN Secretary-General to appoint a special envoy to combat Islamophobia.

The resolution, titled: ‘Measures to Combat Islamophobia’, was passed by a vote of 113 in favour to none against, with 44 abstentions. India, along with most of European states, abstained on the resolution.

Prior to adopting the resolution, the 193-member Assembly rejected two amendments proposed by a group of European nations.

Earlier while introducing the resolution in the UN General Assembly on behalf of the OIC, permanent representative of Pakistan to the UN Ambassador Munir Akram said the incidents of Islamophobia of discrimination, and violence against Muslims have risen exponentially both at the societal and State levels.

COAS underscores commitment to enhance ties with Bahrain

Commander of the National Guard of the Kingdom of Bahrain General Shaikh Mohamed bin Isa bin Salman AI-Khalifa, called on Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir at GHQ in Rawalpindi and discussed strengthening of bilateral military cooperation.

They discussed matters of mutual interest including regional security dynamics, counter-terrorism efforts and training exchanges.

The Army Chief said Pakistan values its traditionally strong defence, diplomatic and economic relations with Kingdom of Bahrain and underscored Pakistan’s commitment to enhancing military ties with Bahrain.

General Asim Munir emphasized the importance of collaboration in addressing shared security challenges and promoting peace and stability in the region.

The visiting dignitary commended Pakistan for its efforts in combating terrorism and extremism and acknowledged the professionalism and dedication of Pakistan Army. He reaffirmed Bahrain’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Pakistan in defence and security domains.
