Govt focusing on macro-economic reforms to attract foreign investment: PM

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said his government is focusing on macro-economic reforms to stabilize the economy and attract foreign investment.

He said this while talking to United States Ambassador Donald Blome,who called him in Islamabad today.

The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction on the present state of bilateral relations. He emphasized the need to maintain the positive momentum by regular convening of existing dialogue mechanisms, focused on trade, investment, energy, health, defence, education, agriculture and climate change.

In this regard, he also highlighted the role of the Special Investment Facilitation Council that has been established to fast-track foreign investments in priority sectors in Pakistan.

A number of issues of bilateral and regional significance were also discussed during the meeting. These include situation in Gaza and the Red Sea, developments in Afghanistan, as well as the case of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, which was raised forcefully by the Prime Minister.

While congratul
ating the Prime Minister on his re-election, Donald Blome said the United States considers Pakistan an important partner and hopes to work with the government to build stronger ties between the two countries.

PM inaugurates Spring Tree Plantation Campaign

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated Spring Tree Plantation Campaign by planting a sapling at the Prime Minister House in Islamabad today.

Speaking on the occasion, he said Pakistan has been facing the hazardous impacts of climate change and suffered a loss of billions of rupees in the past.

The Prime Minister said government had set a target of planting 240 million trees during its previous tenure, which is now being doubled.

He said all out efforts should be made across the country particularly in the educational institutions to create awareness about tree plantation and harmful effects of environmental pollution.

Pak Army organizes Teachers Seminar in North Waziristan

A Teachers Seminar titled “Elm Toolo Da Para” was organized by Pakistan Army at Tehsil Miran Shah of North Waziristan district.

The aim of arranging seminar was to shed light on the importance of teachers and their role in transforming the lives of students.

General Officer Commanding of Pakistan Army in North Waziristan, Major General Anjum Riaz also addressed the seminar.

The speakers appreciated Pakistan Army for its efforts in imparting education and providing training to male and female students of the merged areas in different educational fields.

The teachers and students also thanked Pakistan Army for its key role in promotion of education in their area.

Provision of best health facilities to people priority of incumbent govt: Maryam

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif says the provision of the best health facilities to people is a priority of the incumbent government.

She was chairing a meeting in Lahore today to review suggestions and recommendations on the re-launching of the Health Insurance Programme.

During the meeting, Maryam Nawaz Sharif gave approval for a working group to make the health card more effective.

She also sought a feasible plan for the launching of the Health Card within 3 months.

Govt to start work on five new economic corridors: Ahsan

Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Ahsan Iqbal has directed to expedite the implementation on CPEC project as no further hindrance will be tolerated.

He was chairing a meeting to initiate work on the five new corridors in the second phase of CPEC.

During the meeting, a comprehensive briefing was given to the minister on the progress of CPEC projects.

Planning Minister added that Gwadar is the best tourist destination, emphasizing the need for a solid and effective strategy to promote investment in Gwadar.

He also directed stakeholders to devise a strategy for increasing Pakistani exports in Chinese markets.

PPP emerges as largest party in Senate by-elections

Pakistan People’s Party has emerged as largest party in the Senate by-elections held at National Assembly, Sindh Assembly and Balochistan Assembly today securing four seats out of six.

Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani regained the Senate seat from the federal capital securing 204 votes.

Sunni Ittehad Council’s candidate Chaudhary Ilyas Mehrban got 88 votes.

From Sindh, Pakistan People’s Party candidates won two General Seats of the Senate.

Jam Saifullah acquired 58 votes while Mohammad Aslam Abro got 57 votes.

In Balochistan Provincial Assembly Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo of Pakistan People’s Party , Mir Dustain Domki of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and Abdul Shakoor Khan of JUI-F successful.

All out measures to be taken to improve quality of education: CM Punjab

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz says all-out measures will be taken to improve and standardize education in public schools of the province.

While chairing a meeting in Lahore today, she directed to restart the morning assembly in public schools in Punjab.

She also sought a comprehensive plan for shifting public schools to solar energy. The meeting also reviewed the suggestion to start afternoon classes and evening coaching centers in public schools. The meeting also approved re-establishment of the School Education Council and the restructuring of the Punjab Curriculum Wing.
