Chairman Higher Education Commission selected as Committee Member for Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Environmental Management Awards

Islamabad, September 29, 2016 (PPI-OT): Prof. Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Chairman, Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan has been selected as Member of the Higher Committee for “Award of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) for Environmental Management in the Islamic World.” In this regard, he attended a five-day meeting of the Committee at Jeddah.

The Committee is chaired by Dr. Abdulaziz bin Omar Al-Jassar, Head of the General Authority of Meteorology and Environmental Protection, KSA while the Director General, Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) is its Secretary General. Other members of the Committee include Dr. Mahatir bin Muhammad, former Prime Minister of Malaysia, Mr. Pa Ousman Jarju, Minister of Environment, Climate Change, Water and Wildlife of Gambia, Dr. Mohammed Bin Ibrahim Al Tuwaijri, Assistant Secretary General for Economic Affairs in the League of Arab States, Dr. Ibrahim Ozdemir, former founding Rector of Hasan Kalyoncu University, Turkey, and Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed.

The Award has four categories including i) Best individual or collective research, achievement or practice in the environment and sustainable development, ii) Best practice in environment and sustainable development projects or activities in the public sector in the Member States, iii) Best practice in environment and sustainable development projects or activities in the private sector in the Member States, and iv) Best leading practices or activities in the environment and sustainable development in non-governmental organizations.

The Award is dedicated to outstanding works carried out by individuals, and public and private institutions/organizations operating in various fields of environment and sustainable development. It also aims to consolidate and adopt the broad concept of environment and sustainable development in the Islamic world which calls for making good use of natural resources and protecting them from depletion and pollution through instituting and disseminating principles and methods of sound environmental governance.
