Chairman National Assembly Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs Mohsin Dawar has called for diversifying Pak-US ties with greater focus on trade, investment and tackling climate change.
He was speaking during his interaction with senior US Congressmen including Senator Chris Van Hollen, Dean Phillips and Ami Bera in the US capital. He also delivered talks at the Hudson Institute and Wilson Centre, Washington.
Mohsin Dawar said recent floods in Pakistan and wide scale devastation has reinforced the need for a robust Pak-US partnership in tackling the challenge of erratic climate change.
Briefing the US lawmakers and think tank community about the political situation in Pakistan and developments in the region after US withdrawal from Afghanistan, the lawmaker from Pakistan underscored the need for continued engagement of the international community.
Highlighting Pakistan’s sacrifices during war on terrorism, he said the people of Pakistan, especially those in merged areas, have paid the heaviest price in the war against terrorism.
He called for respect of human rights and socio-economic development to ensure peace and stability in the world, emphasizing that it is the strength of economies and depth of our connections that will ensure sustainable peace.
Earlier, Mohsin Dawar met Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States Masood Khan.
